The Midland Community Orchestra has been awarded a $17,280 Grant ($11,680 from State funds and $5,600 from Federal Funds) from the Michigan Arts and Culture Council and National Endowment for the Arts. The grant was awarded through the MACC peer review process and was one of almost 700 applications to compete for MACC fiscal year 2026 funding. The MACC peer review process allows for each grant application to be competitively considered by a panel of in-state and out-of-state arts and culture professionals. This ensures the taxpayers, who support this project through legislative appropriations, and all other visitors or residents in Michigan will have access to the highest quality arts and cultural experiences.Organizations receiving a MACC grant award are required to match those funds with other public and private dollars. Local support of the Midland Community Orchestra project has included foundations (Rollin M. Gerstacker, Yeo & Yeo, Ken & Gina Pederson Community Fund, Midland 100 Club, Kiwassee Kiwanis), businesses (Eastman Party Store, Feeny (now Snethkamp) Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram-Midland, D&R Floor Covering) and donations by over 65 private individuals. This grant will be used to promote and encourage interest in music by enabling the Midland Community Orchestra to continue to provide free concerts. These concerts are free of charge to everyone and attract a wide range of attendees from Midland and the surrounding areas. The funds will also support the free Midland Community Orchestra Youth program, where young students participate in both a string orchestra and with the full Midland Community Orchestra. The MCO-Youth program is a unique enhancement to offerings by local public schools and provides an additional way for students to gain musical experience and build a lifetime appreciation for the musical arts.Visit Michigan Arts and Culture Council for a complete list of grant awards around the state.
